The Hobby's Week, At An Angle
The Checkout Is One Day. The Wait Is a School Year.
Everything that happened in cards this week, plus the takes nobody asked for and a few somebody should've.
Cold Open
The Checkout Is One Day. The Wait Is a School Year.
Wizards of the Coast opened a 24-hour order window for the Secret Lair Odds and Ends Commander deck, from September 28 at 9 a.m. Pacific through September 29 at 8:59 a.m. Pacific. Orders placed inside that window will be fulfilled. A limited quantity can ship immediately; additional North American orders are expected in July 2027, with European Union and United Kingdom orders expected in August 2027. [1]
That is a real improvement over asking collectors to beat a sellout clock measured in seconds. The order window makes access less dependent on refresh speed. It also moves scarcity into a different column: not whether you can order the deck, but which fulfillment line your order enters and how long you are willing to let a purchase live as a promise. [1]
The clever part is that both customers complete the same checkout. One receives a deck; the other receives a calendar relationship. Secret Lair has replaced the cart sprint with something calmer and stranger: one day to decide, then nearly a school year to practice patience. Better access is still better. It just should not be confused with equal delivery. [1]

TikTok Is Now the Ad, the Host, and the Card Aisle
Panini launched a TikTok Shop with a September 23 live-shopping event and a channel-exclusive 2026 Prizm FIFA World Cup Breakaway box. The official announcement says the configuration covers all 48 qualified countries and includes TikTok-only Blue-and-Red and Lavender Breakaway parallels, with the Lavender cards numbered to 75. [2]
Our Two Cents
A release used to need a commercial, a breaker, and a checkout page. Panini has stacked all three inside one vertical video and handed the collector the remote, the cart, and the audience badge.

Mihawk Leaves the Deck but Not the Collection
Bandai says OP14-020 Dracule Mihawk becomes banned on October 12, 2026, across every version, including alternate-art cards. The notice says combinations involving the card restricted Leader diversity and that a new P-163 Dracule Mihawk Leader with different text is planned for distribution at future events; no distribution date is stated. [3]
Our Two Cents
The rules desk can remove a card from every competitive deck. It cannot make the alternate art stop being a collectible. Bandai's remedy is therefore part balance patch, part character recasting.

Kansas City Gets a First Show and Three Useful Words
The Card Syndicate listed its first Kansas City show for September 26–27 at Harrah's Kansas City, with Pokémon, One Piece, sports cards, slabs, raw cards, sealed product, and singles. The organizer also described activities and a room where kids were welcome at the tables. [4]
Our Two Cents
The best line on the page is not the ticket price. It is: bring a binder. A first show needs tables where a kid can explain the card on page six and nobody checks whether the explanation has a market chart.

Charge · Trademark dispute in the chase-card aisle
The Packaging Is an Exhibit, Not a Verdict
A public Southern District of New York docket records a September 24 trademark complaint filed by Mantle I.P. Holdings and Major League Alumni Marketing against Cardsmiths, Toynk Toys, Steven Loney, and unnamed defendants. The docket lists product packaging, social-media correspondence, and cease-and-desist letters among the complaint's exhibits. These are allegations in a newly filed civil case; the docket shown does not record a ruling on the merits. [5]
Verdict · Off-Center's sentence is procedural: keep the word alleged bolted to the filing until the defendants answer or the court rules. Packaging may be Exhibit B. It is not a verdict in a top loader.

🇲🇴 The Card Show Has Become a Grading Counter
No tariffs, all hits (Friday in, Sunday out) · Macau SAR, China
CGC and JSA say they will offer on-site card grading, autograph authentication, and witnessed-signing services at the Asia Super Collectors Convention in Macau from October 9–11. CGC says Friday on-site submissions may be picked up at the show on Sunday. Submissions made after Friday must be collected later at the Hong Kong office or arranged for return shipping the following week. [6]
The service is first-come, first-served, with limited capacity and the possibility of an early cutoff. That makes the real product more specific than 'on-site grading': it is a timed intake lane built into a convention weekend, with a different custody plan depending on which day the card reaches the counter. [6]
Why You Should Care
US shows should borrow the clarity, not just the banner. Same-show turnaround works when the intake day, cutoff, pickup point, and overflow plan are visible before a collector hands over a card. [6]

Moment of Zen
For Three Days, the Feed Was a Floor Plan
Capital City Card Con listed 224 dealer tables for its September 25–27 show at the Iowa Events Center in Des Moines. The schedule ran from Friday afternoon through Sunday, with cards, memorabilia, trades, and collectors sharing one physical room. Two hundred twenty-four tables is large enough to require a plan and still personal enough for a binder to stop you halfway down an aisle. That is the week: viewed from an angle, then put back in the page. [12]
