The Card Sorter Is Now a Coworker
TCGplayer says Roca Sifters are beginning to arrive in customers' hands. The machines can sort as many as 1,800 cards an hour into three bins using criteria such as price, foil, color, type, and rarity. That is not a faster pair of hands. It is a new unit of hobby labor. [1]
The same seller update says Scan & Identify is available to all Level 4 sellers, Live Scan is in open beta for Pro sellers, and a managed-inventory pilot is underway with a select group. The seller still reviews details such as price, condition, printing, and the catalog match. The machine moves the pile; a person remains responsible for deciding whether the card became the right listing. [1]
That distinction matters. Automation can turn a Saturday of sorting into an exception queue, but it cannot make a bad match honest or a condition call painless. The shop of the near future may look less like somebody alphabetizing boxes and more like somebody supervising a very fast coworker who has never loved a card. The shoebox did not become organized. It became a queue. [1]

Panini says its NWSL Player of the Day promotion will run October 15 through December 1 at 400 hobby shops across the United States. Five Fake-Card Cases Reached Sentencing
KSL.com reported that a Utah woman entered no-contest pleas in five cases to reduced class A misdemeanor theft-by-deception charges; a sixth case was dismissed. The September 2 sentence included $12,650 in restitution, 30 days in jail, 150 hours of community service, and two years of probation. Buyers initially believed the graded Pokemon cards were authentic; closer review, card-shop checks, and police scans identified counterfeits. [5]

🇯🇵 Mercari Drew a Line Between Packs and Singles

Mercari Japan temporarily prohibited listings for unopened Pokemon Card Game 30th Celebration expansion packs and for all nine card sets, whether opened or unopened, beginning September 16. The restriction also covers bundles containing those products. Opened single cards remain eligible for listing. [6]
Mercari says it will remove covered listings as it identifies them and keep the restriction in place until it determines that users can trade safely again. The policy does not ban the entire anniversary set from resale. It separates sealed launch product and complete sets from singles, then applies a temporary product-level rule while the release is hottest. [6]
Why You Should Care
For US marketplaces, the useful idea is a targeted cooling rule: treat a disorderly launch as its own operational problem instead of pretending ordinary listing controls fit every release. Singles can leave the bench; sealed product stays in timeout. [6]

The Cards Were Distinctive Enough to Be Remembered
After more than 100 collectible cards were stolen from Player's Price TCG in Kerman, California, owner Joe Quijano posted security footage and members of the trading-card community helped identify the stolen items. Police said that tracking led investigators to Northern California and to a September 20 arrest on suspicion of possessing stolen property. The store has reopened with security upgrades. The investigation belongs to police; the useful community act was quieter: people recognized a collection, paid attention, and shared what they knew. [12]
